This year, at the Mad Hatter's Auction, March 18th from 5:30-10:30 you can bid on the auction art created by Mrs. Gilkey and Mrs. Bass's 2nd grade class. Molly Anderson led the class in the creation of an exquisite garden pillow. All of the students had a hand in sewing the flowers and their names are handwritten on the leaves. This is a must-see piece that would add a little something special to any home. You can purchase tickets for the auction at llewellyn.ejoinme.org/MADHATTERSAUCTION.
During our last session of parent-led art, our students painted their own versions of Georgia O'Keeffe's, "Sky Above the Clouds". They were to draw a horizon line and paint below the horizon, a dark blue color, and above a light blue color. After the first step was dry, they painted the clouds and a sunset. Each student will have beautiful art pieces to chose from when deciding what to display at the Parent Led Art exhibit on April 27th. We look forward to seeing you all there to celebrate the wonderful Parent Led Art Program at Llewellyn.
We have been working on letter writing and geography over the past month or so. Family members and friends of our students have been sending postcards, letters, information pamphlets, etc. to our class. Each day it is a surprise to open our mailbox and see all the wonderful mail rolling in! It has been such a treat to hear facts about the states and countries, tidbits of information about our students we didn't know, and the great questions that have come up after sharing all the information with the kids. This has been a memorable experience for all of us. Below are a few pictures of mail that we have received. We will continue to welcome the mail, so send the word to family members and friends who may want to participate. Thanks!
Our students are so proud of their upside down bird drawings! These drawings were completed by turning a picture upside down and slowly revealing small parts. The students were to look at the drawing not as a whole, but as lines and shapes. It is always exciting to see the finished products.
One round of Daily 5 is read to someone. Students read to someone to improve both fluency and comprehension. They ask questions, make predictions, and discuss their thoughts and ideas. We encourage families to read together at home.
What a fun-filled, exciting afternoon to celebrate good friendships in our classroom! Our students passed out valentines, made crowns, munched on yummy treats, decorated cookies with lots of frosting and sprinkles, and listened to a zombie love story! The smiles were contagious. Many thanks to those who volunteered their time and sent in supplies. We had a blast!
