Second graders participated in Run Llewellyn, a fundraiser for the arts last Friday, April 21st. We got lucky and had the most beautiful day of spring yet! The students ran their hearts out for 30 minutes hoping to make their family members, neighbors, and friends proud! Parents came out in force to cheer them on. They enjoyed Otter pops while resting in the sunshine. Make sure to help your child collect their pledges and send them back to school this week.
In math, we completed a fun lesson using M&Ms candy. Our students worked in pairs to sort, count, and calculate how many candies were in each bag after making predictions about the number of each color. Afterward, they graphed the data using a bar graph and then analyzed their findings and compared them to the predictions they made. They couldn't wait to finish, so they could eat their sweets!
Last week, we went on two walking field trips to neighborhood businesses. We had the opportunity to visit Nurture Salon, Wallace Books, and New Seasons Market. We learned about goods and services provided at these locations, tasks involved in running a small business, and about buying local. The kids had fun getting hair chalk in their hair and sampling tasty treats! A big thanks to these neighborhood businesses for opening their doors to our second graders!
