During our study on neighborhoods, we created a 3-D mini-town out of recycled materials. The students determined which types of businesses we would include along with houses, apartments, parks, etc. After creating the buildings, they planned out the logical placement of the buildings and structures based on what we learned about neighborhoods and cities. It is complete with stop signs, street lights, and street names. They voted for the the town name: Portlandia. We think it feels a bit like our own neighborhood of Sellwood/Westmoreland.
